Not a Rat anymore!... Wait they don't yell at me any more?

People asked if I'm excited? They asked if I am ready to go back and they are always "say it will be easier this year right?" Well can it get any harder? It will be different this year, harder in different ways. I filled with mixed feelings. It's not easy getting back into the VMI routine, but I'm finding my life is much better this year than last. It is so weird being on the other side of the fence. Amazing at the same time.

disclaimer: I know mom doesn't like me writting on this, but it just helps to write things out.

Fourth Class FTX, little food, no sleep, all adventure.

I am back from the George Washington National Forest. It was quite an amazing experience. Our scenario was we were normal college students in a foreign country whose government was falling to pieces and we had to get out. The first day we left around eighteen hundred hours. We had to hike to the country beside it to seek safety. We hiked for about an hour before bunkering down on the side of a hill. Between spooning and the fire we didn't get to cold. We had smores our lane walker smuggled in so morale was high. The next day we hiked through mountainous terrain. Evading the "Opfour" bad guys, jumping down in ditches as they can barreling down the road in their jeeps. At the first check point we ended up making the "good" guys mad so we ended up on the ground with our hand behind our backs while they strip searched us.  It was quite funny we couldn't help but laugh a little. We got lost following all these streams that were not the ones we thought they were, but eventually we found a road. We camped that night twenty minutes away from the end. This morning we walked to the finish coming in third over all. As much as it sucked it was a blast. It was really good training. That is all...Carry on.

That's all she wrote.

I am academicly done with my first year of college! Actually I've been done for acouple days, but I've been just working out, eating and sleeping. I've got fourth class FTX starting Monday through Wednesday. They're basicly throwing us out in the woods with a map and compass and telling us find our way out. Other than that I'm already on summer vacation just chilling here. I am getting my bagpipes next week!

Well I'll be life guarding this summer and training for the Marine Corp Marathon in October. I will also be doing RAGBRAI again for Pedaling for Parkinsons at the end of July. I will be coming back early to VMI to play the pipes for matriculation. That's my summer in a nutshell plenty of time to kick back and relax. Carry on

The Dark Ages are over!

Well at least until next semester... we are back in white blouse and ducks. Of course it's suppose to snow/sleet tomorrow. Wow, lots of things have happened since I wrote last and go figure things die down when I come back to the Institute.  I have made Rat Challenge Cadre  for next year. For those who don't know or don't remember Rat Challenge was the PT (Physical Training) side of our training. I'm really excited because I looked up to the guys this past fall and for me to get to work with them and be part of that is really cool. My Spring Break went by super fast, but I got to ride a lot so that was good. My cycling legs are coming back slowly. I turned in my application to the pool. So, it looks like I will be lifeguarding again this summer. A lot of the people working last summer are coming back so it will be like the good ole days. Like 6 more weeks of classes! I can't wait for the summer. Carry on

Edit: So, much is going on I forget half of it. I 've got my roommates for next year it's going to be an awesome 3rd class year even if 3rds eat... you know. I've got a busted lip from boxing. We were doing defensive drills and yeah I didn't defend very well. I'm struggling to get "Scotland the Brave" down on my chanter, but over all my ablity to play has been improving. I'll have a set of pipes and a kilt before I know it. This book I was reading "The Ghost Brigade" was really good, it was thought provoking. The History Channel had a thing on how William Shatner and "Star Trek" changed how are world is today. By inspiring scientist and computer geeks to create stuff they wouldn't have if they hadn't watched "Star Trek". Like one guy on the show was talking about having a computer chip in your brain to comunicate with other people. In this book that is a reality for the soldiers. Pretty neat. Just need a space ship now...

I miss my family like Dicky Cheney misses quail.

The start of a crazy week and the madness has already started. Last night was well interesting. I had the VFT today. I did pretty well, it's hard to push yourself after lunch. My group had a Naval Science presentation today. I think we did a good job, it lead to an interesting conversation on Naval Academy officers and VMI officers. I won't bore you with the details, but it was quite interesting to here the opinion of our instructor. A guy that enlisted and has gone through the ranks to become an officer. 3 and a wake till Spring Break. Well I'm back to the firing line. Carry On
